If you want to extend your blog's existence and want to build a community out from it, then a forum might be right for you. Before leaping a step towards installing a forum, here are some points you should consider. First, you should be able to extract the recent posts, forum statistics towards your blog, in other words were are talking about SSI (Server Side Includes) Although, some forum software can easily extract the information you want to appear on your site or blog, others will rely on your knowledge on database. If you can't, then you should consider hiring a database guru instead. Second, you might as well consider the scalability of the forum software wherein you can easily modify your forums package. Third, database integration. I don't like to come back to a websites that make you sign-up for two accounts. Aside from the hassle it makes, it might be time consuming on your part considering that you have to remember your two accounts. Lastly, you should also consider either paid or free forum softwares. Here are some of the forum softwares, widely used today.
Open source bulletin board software:
- phpBB - is a powerful, multi-functional, and easily modifiable bulletin board package. phpBB has a user-friendly interface, simple administration, and helpful tutorial. With phpBB you can:
have unlimited forums and posts
use multiple language interface

has a plugin to integrate with wordpress blog
- SMF - is free, elegant, feature-rich community forum software. It has a comprehensible and intuitive user interface. SMF has large online community with developers and other users able and willing to help. It has many high-value and high-quality features. SMF offers easy-to-modify theme support and has highly optimized database structure and queries are suitable for small and large forums. Has a plugin to integrate forum database with Wordpress blog.
Affiliate Crunch has chosen this forum software.
Paid bulletin board software:
- Vbulletin - scalable and easily modifiable forums package for your web site. vBulletin is suitable for medium and large forum communities. Being paid software, vBulletin ensures much better security of its code and database. vBulletin is written in PHP and uses MySQL backend. Although a sort of costly investment, it has however a lot of add-ons to enhance its functionality. Can integrate well with Wordpress blog.
- Invision Power Board - another powerful scaleable bulletin board system. It allows you to easily create, customize and manage your online forum. IPB is written in PHP and needs one MySQL database. It is easily installed, has intuitive administration and tons of features. Has a plugin to interact with Wordpress blog.
Wordpress forum plugin:
- Simple Forum - As the name suggests, Simple Forum is a simple and straightforward forum that does the sort of stuff a forum is supposed to. It is fully integrated with WordPress and the WP User system and has grown from being simple to being very richly featured because people keep asking for extra and exciting stuff!
Affiliate Crunch . com is using this plugin at the moment.
- bbPress - from the makers of Wordpress, this simple bulletin board software can well integrate with wordpress although it is not a plugin for wordpress. This software is focused on web standards, ease of use, ease of integration, and speed.
In the long run, forum can be at times hard to maintain. You might experience more downsides in running this software if you have less time on this. But establishing this on your site with high traffic can be rewarding.

5 tools to speed up Vista Basic.
When I purchased a laptop with Vista Basic installed, I was thinking that it was a dream come true. But like most of the dismayed computer users, it was a decision I cannot forget that I have to install some softwares to make my laptop shine again.
Tweaking vista basic is far more complicated than installing a wordpress blog. I compiled a set of free softwares I used to speed my vista basic on a Compaq Presario V3000, here's the list:
- Tweak VI - There are 3 different editions to choose from, Basic Edition which contains features for standard system tweaking, the Premium Edition, which gives you more access to performance and optimization and the Ultimate Edition, which is the top of the line for complete control on Windows Vista. However, both Premium Editions and Ultimate Editions are not free. So go for the Basic Edition which is free.
- Auslogics Disk Defrag - After you tweak some settings on Vista Basic, a free defragment tool comes in handy. Use this to see your hard drives clicking for action.
- Windows ReadyBoost - Another tool to improve system memory and improve performance. Be sure to get your 2GB flash drive so that you can use this feature. It relies on the intelligent memory management of Windows SuperFetch and can significantly improve system responsiveness.
- CCleaner - If you are keen on valuable space of your hard disk, then this tool is for you. This tool can eliminate traces of your online activities allowing you to gain back the lost disk spaces used.
- Get more Memory- This is the best among the tools previously mentioned. Even if you get the best tweaking tools out there, but you always run out of memory, you cannot enjoy and appreciate this thing called Vista. Among the best things that surrounds the marketing world is called marketing strategy. I have realized that sometimes Marketing Strategy would mean marketing lie? Why? I cannot accept the fact that Vista is bundled on a Core duo processor with only 512mb memory. Its a fact and I do have one of this machine and I cannot understand why they have such strategy.
Additionally, more tips on how to speed up Vista OS can be found here.

Gmail and Firebug. It’s G-bug.
I'm using the two fire* for the past months already and I'm surprised to see a notice from gmail, informing that Firebug can make Gmail slow. Luckily, gmail handed out an instruction on how to fix the problem immediately aside from disabling Firebug. Click here to see the instructions and get rid of the thing called G-bug.

How to get a free domain for free.
This is an incomplete guide on how to get a free domain for free. This may sound crazy, but the fact is, you can get a .com for free. If you are really serious enough to get a .com you might consider this guide. It says you can get a .com after 3 days and as a proof to that, the site itself was made out from this program. Affiliate Crunch . com is taking up this challenge, that is why I made this as an incomplete guide.
To start with the program, you have to sign up with Ezyrewards . Use a valid information and be sure to get a junk mail for your emails or you can use disposable emails. A phone number is necessary, get one at Privatephone. However, privatephone will be gone after December 15, 2007 and you might as well enjoy this service for a limited time only or if you are not lazy enough, you can search for google with this keywords "Free Phone Number and Voicemail".
At members menu of Ezyrewards, there are offers. You must participate on these surveys and once completed, you can earn points. However, these offers will vary depending on the geographical location because primarily, ezyrewards only refers to these three countries, U.S. U.K. and Australia. As of the moment, I have to wait for offers aside from the one I already completed. Huh.
You will get points usually after 24 hours. More updates will be coming.
