How Do You Import Videos From A Digital Camcorder?

I have firewires and my computer recognises that i have a digital camcorder with videos on it, as it comes up with a quick start menu and then an import video option. I click on it and nothing happens. I do it again but it just says that a video is already importing. What do i do?
