Simple: Press ForumAre you planning to add a forum as an additional source for targeted traffic? Then this one is for you. I have been closely following a forum plugin especially made for Wordpress. It was first called Simple Forum, but lately, a stand alone forum was created with the same name, thus to avoid confusion, Andy, the creator of the forum plugin, decided to call it Simple: Press Forum with the recent release of Version 3.0. So much has been added to the plugin that it is not as simple as it used to be. Among the features newly added to the long list of user request are the following: Main Features:

  • ‘Pretty/SEO’ Friendly Permalinks.
  • Private Messaging
  • Powerful User Group and Permission structure
  • New ‘QuickLinks’ dropdown on the Search Bar displaying recent and unread posts
  • Bulk Moderate Posts
  • Login Form
  • Mass Deletion
  • Many ‘Custom’ options: Up to three custom icons in login bar; set custom icons for all Groups and Forums; Use a graphic in place of page title; Create a special ‘editor’ message
  • Redirect RSS Feeds to external services (i.e., FeedBurner)
  • ‘Pluggable’ page rendering code allowing replacement functions and custom code routines
  • TinyMCE V3 with much improved text handling and formatting
  • Optional Image File Uploading (only using TinyMCE editor)
  • Improved Notification, Messaging and form validations
  • EMail Overrides and create text of New User Email
  • Democracy Polls plugin support
  • Images as Thumbnails that expand

Additional Features: But the most important feature of this plugin is it will work nicely with the upcoming release of Wordpress 2.5. As of the moment, some minor bugs will be encountered after the installation. However, Andy is very quick to answer for any problems regarding the Simple: Press Forum. The effectiveness of this extended service of your blog will primarily depend on how you interact with your forum users. Forums, generally requires much attention and maintenance but the traffic is worthy to be considered once you established a bunch of loyal followers.

I’ll try this one out now, I already had a vbulletin forum setup but the forum, I think is a bit bloated and has too many features that are intimidating to my users. I hope this simple forum features would be enough for me. Thanks :)

  2. I think it is not simple as it used to be Fedmich. It’s getting more and more complex as the author will add features depending on the request. I requested for a feature that will be most likely work like VBCredits. A VBulletin plugin that give credits to a forum posts etc. But as of the current version 3.0, it was not included.

    Go try this one.

  4. BB Press and Simple Press are not the same. Simple Press used to be called Simple Forum and unfortunately somebody created a standalone forum from that name. that is why the author, Andy called it Simple Press on it’s new release.
